TYPE 2: Standard Sampling, Identification and Assessment Survey (Sampling Survey)

The purpose and procedures used in a Type 2 Survey are the same as for a Type 1 Survey except that representative samples are collected and analysed by a UKAS Accredited laboratory to confirm or disprove the surveyor’s judgment. If the material sampled is found to contain asbestos, other similar homogonous materials used in the same way within the building can be strongly presumed to contain asbestos. Less homogonous materials e.g. thermal insulation/textured coatings will require a greater number of samples. The number should be sufficient for the surveyor to make an assessment of whether asbestos is present or is not present.
